Roumel Reaux

ROUMEL REAUX was brought into the glorious world dance by a wonderful dancer and teacher Althea Leslie in his junior year at South Philadelphia High School. He began his extensive ballet training at Point Park College, now Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA
under the tutelage of Edward Caton, and Ismet Mouhedin. While in college, he performed withPittsburgh Ballet Theatre working with such dance luminaries as Leonide Massine and Ruth Page.

 

Roumel left college to attend Harkness House for Ballet Arts (NYC) under the directorship of David Howard and Maria Vegh. After a year at Harkness House, Roumel joined GeorgeFaison’s concert dance company the George Faison Universal Dance Experience and went on to become Mr. Faison’s assistant on the Broadway and National companies of the hit musical The Wiz. He’s assisted Mr. Faison on many productions including the restaging of Mr. Faison’s ballets Suite Otis and Tilt on The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
 

Roumel performed as a Guest Artist with several concert dance companies including Nannette Bearden Contemporary Dance Theatre where he also taught company class, choreographed several ballets and served as Associate Artistic Director.

 

As a teacher, Roumel has taught dance at such schools as the Alvin Ailey School (NYC), Baltimore High School of the Performing Arts, Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts (Wash, D.C.), Marygrove College (Detroit), Lehman College (NYC), and through out Europe. 

 

Roumel has worked as a performer, dance captain, assistant director/choreographer, or stage manager on numerous Broadway, Off Broadway, National Tour and Regional Theater productions including Bob Fosse's Dancin', Five Guys Named Moe, and Radio City Music Hall’s Porgy and Bess.
 

Roumel choreographed and played the on camera choreographer on one of the most popular episodes of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the one when the original Aunt Vivian (Janet Hubert) turns
40 and decides to dance again. The audition scene from that episode is still a popular post on You Tube and Facebook.

 

Mr. Reaux co-wrote, composed, teaches and performs in MyPlate! The New Food Guide Musical a nutrition program currently in elementary schools in New York, Los Angeles and St. Thomas, VI.
